About This Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Accountant for an interim, part-time role to join our finance team. This position will play a critical role in inventory reconciliation, physical inventory oversight, and gross margin analysis, supporting our operations and executive leadership with accurate cost data and financial insights. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of manufacturing or inventory-based environments, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
What You Will Work On

Inventory Reconciliation:

  • Reconcile inventory sub-ledger to general ledger monthly.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies, adjustments, and variances.
  • Monitor inventory transactions and ensure accuracy in perpetual inventory systems.

Physical Inventory Management:

  • Plan and execute physical inventory counts and cycle counts.
  • Coordinate with operations and warehouse staff to ensure accurate count procedures.
  • Analyze and report on inventory shrinkage, overages, and operational inefficiencies.

Gross Margin Analysis:

  • Analyze cost of goods sold (COGS) and assess gross margin trends.
  • Support pricing decisions with cost analysis and margin simulations.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes related to COGS and inventory.

Cost Accounting Functions:

  • Maintain standard cost system; update standards based on new BOMs, labor rates, and overhead allocations.
  • Conduct variance analysis (purchase price, labor, overhead) and report findings.
  • Partner with operations to identify cost reduction opportunities.

Reporting & Compliance:

  • Prepare internal financial and operational reports.
  • Assist with audits and ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.

What You Will Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA/CMA preferred).

3+ years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing or distribution environment.

Strong understanding of inventory control, cost of goods sold, and standard costing systems.

Hands-on experience with physical inventory counts and reconciliation processes.

Proficient in ERP/accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar).

Advanced Excel skills and strong data analysis capabilities.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to communicate effectively across departments and explain financial concepts to non-financial teams.


What You Can Expect
  • This role is Hybrid, Part-Time 20-30 hours a week, with 3 days Onsite in San Jose, CA.
  • Pay Rate: $50/hr
