About This Role
The MDM System Architect is a senior technical leader on the MDM Solution Teams responsible for translating complex Master Data Management (MDM) epics into robust, scalable, and compliant system-level designs across the MDM Product Platform—supporting client systems. Working within Agile Release Trains (ARTs), this role drives architecture decisions, build vs buy evaluations, prototyping, and backlog elaboration while orchestrating dependencies across teams: Architecture, Development, Shared Service DevOps & Quality, Release & Compliance, Customer Success, and Decision Support Reporting.
What You Will Work On
  • Deliver assessments of the current state of the program, identify gaps, and develop roadmaps for the program aligning with its strategic objectives.
  • Decompose large and complex initiatives/epics into features and actionable user stories. Ensure customer-focused outcomes are reflected in the acceptance criteria of user stories. Develop project scoping and estimating for solutions.
  • Define system-level architectures emphasizing scalability, performance, reliability, and compliance. Design solution and reference architecture to meet business requirements and SLAs. Optimize application performance and scalability. Align designs with MDM data models and domain-specific requirements, emphasizing MDM design principles.
  • Author architecture decision records (ADRs), interface contracts, sequence diagrams, and context maps for platform-wide reuse. Create and maintain Solution Intent documentation, capturing the business, technical, data, and non-functional requirements with input from Technical Analysts, Customer Success, and Strategy & Communications.
  • Lead evaluations of custom development versus third-party products/tools, assessing total cost of ownership, risk, compliance, enterprise policy alignment, interoperability with systems, and operational fit. Present recommendations and tradeoffs to the executive team of the program.
  • Produce proof of concepts or prototypes required.
  • Manage the quality of delivery across projects. Identify, communicate, and mitigate cross-team risks and dependencies.
  • Resolve integration and interfacing issues between various back-end systems
  • Coordinate with the Release Train Engineer (RTE) on release planning, readiness, and cross ART alignment. Operate within SAFe/ART ceremonies (PI Planning, System Demos, Inspect & Adapt), ensuring architecture runway, increment objectives, and roadmap alignment with the strategic objectives of the program.
  • Monitor delivery health (velocity, quality, compliance gates) and drive continuous improvement.

What You Will Bring
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 8+ years of software engineering or data platform experience, with 5+ years architecting enterprise MDM solutions, solution architectures, and strategies across multiple architecture domains (infrastructure, application, data, integration, and security).
  • Cloud architecture experience (Azure/AWS) with secure data services (encryption, KMS, IAM).
  • Hands-in experience with the design, development, and implementation of systems for large enterprise applications.
  • Ability to author architecture artifacts and present tradeoff decisions.
  • Strong integration experience: REST/GraphQL APIs, event streaming (Kafka), ETL/ELT, messaging, and microservices on Docker/Kubernetes.
  • Proven SAFe/Agile delivery within ARTs, including PI Planning and cross-team dependency management.
  • Security & compliance knowledge: PII/PHI, HIPAA, and federal controls (e.g., NIST/FISMA).
  • Tooling fluency: Jira, Confluence, Git/GitLab, CI/CD (Jenkins/GitHub), and observability (e.g., Splunk/Dynatrace).
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to facilitate team and client meetings effectively. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience in a consulting environment with a demonstrated track record of continuing responsibilities, creativity, and innovation.

Preferred:
  • Experience in health/identity data standards (e.g., HL7/FHIR, X12).
  • Prior work with MDM.
  • Certifications: SAFe Architect (ARCH), SAFe Agilist, TOGAF, CISSP/CISM (or equivalent).

Technical Skills:
  • MDM Concepts: identity resolution, golden record creation, and data linage.
  • Integration: API design, schema evolution, streaming/CDC, batch ETL/ELT
  • Cloud Architecture: domain-driven design, event-driven architecture, microservices patterns, security/privacy by design, performance tuning.
  • Compliance & Security: HIPAA/PHI, PII handling, audit logging, encryption at rest/in transit, secrets management, role-based access controls.

Competencies:
  • Systems thinking and pragmatic decision making (build vs. buy).
  • Influence without authority across multiple teams and vendors.
  • Clear documentation (ADRs, sequence diagrams, solution intent, non-functional requirements).
  • Risk management and dependency orchestration within ART cadence.
  • Customer-focused mindset—design for reliability, accuracy, and trust.

What You Can Expect
